Full band atmospheric doom performance by Darkher with guest support from Vvaif and Artemisia Nathair.
Darkher plays Daltons on Saturday 12 September, with guest support from Vvaif and Artemisia Nathair. It's a full band performance, so the set will be the full atmospheric doom sound rather than a stripped-back version.
Darkher is the stage name of Jayn Maiven, a composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who emerged from the hills of West Yorkshire. Her music blends ghostly folk, heavy doom-laden soundscapes and ethereal atmospheres, all held together by a voice that's been described as a siren song. Live, it's built around candlelit stages and immersive stillness, and the whole thing is played out as a kind of otherworldly ritual. Her album The Buried Storm has been compared to Neurosis or Triptykon at their quietest and most reflective, and critics have called the music both devastating and transcendent.
It's a particular kind of night — the sort where you're as much listening to the silence and the space between the notes as you are to the heavy parts. The folk elements bring a certain fragility to it, and the doom provides the weight, so it's a sound that can shift from something quite sparse and ghostly to something much more oppressive and immersive. With Vvaif and Artemisia Nathair on support, the whole evening will sit in that same atmospheric territory.
