Grand opening of the CuppaPug cafe at Brighton Marina, featuring resident rescue pugs, themed drinks, and cakes.
Brighton Marina is seeing a new addition this Thursday, 5th March, with the official opening of CuppaPug. Following a soft launch that took place back on 14th February, this "vibrant pink" space is now ready to operate as the brand's sixth location worldwide. It’s a bit of a departure from the usual coffee shops in the area, functioning as a hybrid between a themed cafe and an animal welfare centre. The layout is designed to be a comfortable environment where visitors can spend time with resident pugs, a concept that Louise Taylor, the director of Brighton Marina, noted as being a welcoming environment for the local community and their pets.

The experience inside revolves around the resident dogs, including Pearl, Peaches, and Blossom, who live on-site. You’ll also find Gizmo, the pug who acts as the face of the brand, often available for a few photos with visitors. While you’re there, the menu covers the usual cafe staples alongside themed smoothies and cakes. They’ve also teamed up with the dog treat company W’zis, so there are plenty of snacks circulating for the animals. For those who managed to secure a booking for the opening day, the organisers are giving away some merchandise, such as official tote bags and t-shirts, as a bit of a welcome gesture.
Beyond the social aspect, there is a significant focus on the CuppaPug Rescue programme. The cafe serves as a hub for rehabilitation and medical care for pugs in need of support. If you notice any of the dogs wearing a pink bandana, it means they are currently up for adoption and looking for a new home. This initiative is integrated into the daily operation of the cafe, with the proceeds from the entry fees helping to cover the ongoing veterinary expenses and rescue efforts. It’s a structured way to fund their welfare work, ensuring that the dogs receive the necessary care while interacting with the public in a controlled setting.
To visit, you do need to book a slot through their website in advance, as they manage the number of people inside to keep things calm for the residents. This system helps maintain the balance between a busy cafe and a functional rescue centre. Whether you are interested in the adoption side of things or just want to see how they’ve transformed the unit at the Marina, the space offers a very specific look at how animal rescue can be integrated into a local business. It’s a practical addition to Brighton’s pet-friendly scene, focusing on long-term care and finding homes for the pugs in their charge.
