Concert by Buffalo rapper Conway the Machine, a founding member of the Griselda Records collective, at the Chalk venue in Brighton.
Conway the Machine plays Chalk on Monday 26 October, with doors opening at 18:30 and the night running until 22:00. He's a Buffalo rapper and one of the most respected voices in modern hip-hop, and he's coming to Brighton with a full bill around him.
He's a founding member of the Griselda Records collective, which he started with his half-brother Westside Gunn and his cousin Benny the Butcher. Together they've been credited with helping lead the resurgence of underground East Coast rap. Before that, back in high school, he rapped in a group called The Forerunners with Gunn, Benny and Machine Gun Blak. He took music seriously after serving prison time in his early twenties and surviving a 2012 shooting that left half of his face paralysed by Bell's palsy — the source of the distinctive slur that's become his trademark.
Westside Gunn formed Griselda Records in 2014, and the following year Conway dropped his first two solo mixtapes, The Devil's Reject and Reject 2. The label landed a distribution deal with Shady Records in 2017, the same year he appeared in the Shady cypher at the BET Hip Hop Awards. His debut studio album, From King to a God, arrived in 2020 and reached No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart.
