Over-18s night of alternative music with Manchester band Catbandcat, Brighton folk band Krumpets and local musician Tom Oleander at The Brunswick.
catbandcat are playing The Brunswick on Wednesday 28 October, with support from Krumpets and Tom Oleander. The night is presented by Elusive Jazz in collaboration with Hiraeth Folk Club, and it's strictly for over-18s.
catbandcat are a Manchester-based five-piece alternative band. Their sound sits on a bit of a contradiction: they blend the synthetic, glitchy and abrasive textures of drum machines and synthesizers with the natural tones of violin, accordion and voice. It's that mix of electronic grit and acoustic warmth that sets them apart. They've been getting some attention lately, too — they made the BBC Introducing Manchester 'One to Watch 2026' list and featured in The Guardian's 2026 Brit Awards article on the top 20 up-and-coming Manchester bands.
Opening for them are Krumpets, a three-piece alternative folk band from Brighton. They work with layered harmony, passionate lyricism and a lilting guitar and banjo — a sound they describe as what you'd imagine Toad and Mole would play on their radio show. Joining them is Tom Oleander, a local artist, poet and musician, so the bill brings together a Manchester headliner and two local names.
