A night of experimental rock, neo-goth and post-punk performances presented by Not Right at Daltons.
Cephos Powders headline Daltons on Monday 26 October, with Matt Finucane and Holy Clang on the bill. The night is put on by Not Right, and it's billed as a night of "disturbingly good aural hallucinations" — which gives you a fair idea of the territory this one is covering.
Cephos Powders are an experimental rock band born out of the sounds of Campbell Road's Builders Yard here in Brighton, so there's a local connection to the city's industrial edges running through them. They take the top spot at 10:00pm, after two other acts that pull from very different corners of the underground. Matt Finucane comes in at 9:15, dealing in what's described as demented neo-goth and post-punk eruptions — the kind of sound that sits somewhere between a dark dancefloor and a proper collapse. Holy Clang open the night at 8:30 with a dancey rampage of beats, bass and fuzz, so the evening starts with something you can move to before it shifts into the more jagged, experimental stuff.
Between the three of them, it's a wide spread: Holy Clang's beats and bass, Finucane's neo-goth eruptions, and Cephos Powders' experimental rock. It's not a line-up that stays in one place, and the descriptions suggest it'll be a fairly loud, textural night rather than a singalong. If you're into the more challenging end of the city's live scene, this is exactly the kind of thing that works best when you're there in the room.

Daltons is on the Lower Promenade, Madeira Drive, BN2 1TB. Doors open at 8:00pm, with the music starting at 8:30pm when Holy Clang take the stage. Tickets are £5 for those 18 and over.
