An intensive two-day stand-up comedy course led by Jill Edwards at Komedia, focusing on writing, performance techniques, and building confidence. Ages 18+.
If you’ve ever thought about trying stand-up comedy, or just want a serious confidence boost using performance techniques, there’s a solid opportunity coming up this summer right here in Brighton. The Brighton Weekend Comedy Course June 2026 is scheduled to run at Komedia, and it’s worth noting the pedigree behind it. This intensive workshop is run by Jill Edwards Comedy Workshops, who has been a fixture in the local comedy scene since 1994. Jill is widely credited with creating the original and best stand-up course in the city, and her track record speaks for itself—she’s trained people who have gone on to become household names, including Jimmy Carr, Romesh Ranganathan, Angela Barnes, and Seann Walsh. The course itself is designed as an introduction to stand-up, focusing on the core skills needed to create, write, and perform a short comedy set, helping participants explore their personal style.

The course takes place over two days, the weekend of June 6th and 7th, 2026. You’ll be spending time at Komedia, specifically in the Komedia Studio or Basement, located at 44-47 Gardner Street. The schedule is split across the two days: Saturday, June 6th, runs from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Sunday, June 7th, is slightly shorter, running from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. It’s open to anyone AGES 18+, and while it’s perfect for absolute beginners who have zero experience, it also caters to newer comedians looking to sharpen their material and performance techniques. The goal is practical: helping participants build confidence and learn solid techniques for writing and acting comedy.
If you are interested in signing up, the cost for the full weekend course is either £275 or £245. All bookings and inquiries are handled directly through Jill Edwards, not the venue. Given the reputation of the workshops and the limited space in the Komedia Studio, it’s usually recommended to book well in advance, as these courses often sell out quickly.
