A high-energy explosion of Brazilian rhythm and dance, bringing the spirit of Rio Carnival to Brighton.
If you are looking for something a bit different to do in Brighton this May, the Brighton School of Samba is bringing their percussion and dance performance to the city as part of the Brighton Fringe 2026. This group, which has been operating as a non-profit community organisation since 2007, focuses on combining traditional Brazilian percussion, known as bateria, with dance. They are planning to recreate the atmosphere of the Rio Carnival through a 60-minute, immersive, street-style performance.

There are two opportunities to catch them during the festival. The first performance is scheduled for 4 May 2026 at 17:00, taking place at Under the Archway at Caravanserai, which is an outdoor stage. A second performance will follow on 17 May 2026 at 15:00, held at the Pavilion Gardens Cafe. Both events are free to attend and do not require tickets, making them accessible options if you are planning a day out in the city.
Regarding the logistics, the event is suitable for families, with an age guidance starting from 3 years old. Both venues are equipped with facilities such as wheelchair access, accessible toilets, and accessible parking. They also welcome assistance dogs. If you have specific requirements or questions about the layout of either venue, it is worth contacting the box office directly to get the most accurate information before you head out. It is a straightforward way to experience some live music and dance in a relaxed, outdoor setting without the need for advance planning or booking.
