New York brass protest rock band Brass Against plays CHALK on Pool Valley with its Back To The UK Tour.
Brass Against play Chalk on Saturday 17 April, part of their Back To The UK Tour. It's a New York collective led and curated by Brad Hammonds, with vocals from Sophia Urista, Liza Colby and Samuel Hope. They've toured Europe twice, including twelve sold-out shows in early 2019, and have played festivals like Boomtown, Pukkelpop and Download Madrid, as well as an opening slot with Lenny Kravitz at the O2 Arena. They've shared the stage with Tool, Prophets of Rage, Living Colour, Royal Blood, Mike D of the Beastie Boys and Ben Harper.
Their whole thing is brass protest music that calls fans to action, fusing a brass band with heavy rock and powerful vocals. The repertoire draws on Rage Against The Machine, Tool, Audioslave, Soundgarden, Black Sabbath and Run the Jewels, woven into a heavy brass-filled symphony alongside their own compositions. They describe their music as sitting in a tradition of songs that soundtrack politically charged times, from Woodstock to people singing from their balconies during the pandemic. It's that mix of heavy riffs and a brass section that gives the set its particular weight.
