A family-friendly day festival featuring arts and craft stalls, performances, storytelling, workshops, and a cultural café.
If you are looking for plans for the final day of May, the Black Brighton Market 'Festival Day' is taking place on May 31, 2026. This event, now in its third year as part of the Brighton Fringe, is hosted at Ironworks Studios on Cheapside. It is designed as a family-friendly space that aims to provide a platform for Black artists, makers, and service providers to showcase their work, addressing a gap in local opportunities. The doors are open from 12:00 to 19:00, and it is free for anyone to attend.

The programme for the day is quite varied, filling the seven-hour window with a mix of activities. You will find stalls featuring arts and crafts, alongside live performances, storytelling sessions, and workshops. There is also a cultural café on-site, which serves as a central point for the event. Given the nature of the activities, it is suitable for children from the age of three upwards, making it a straightforward option if you are planning a weekend outing with family or friends.
Regarding the logistics, the venue is located at 30 Cheapside, BN1 4GD. Ironworks Studios has ensured the space is accessible, with wheelchair access and accessible toilets available. They also welcome assistance dogs. The event is supported by the Irene Mensah Bursary and Flo Creative, in collaboration with the 'This is New Brighton' theatre production. Since it is a free event with no ticket requirement, you can simply drop by during the opening hours to see what is happening.
