A night of upbeat traditional folk music with sea shanty singing from The Herringbones, presented by Folklore Sessions.
Belver play The Folklore Rooms on Friday 2 October, with support from The Herringbones. The night is presented by Folklore Sessions, and the music runs from 20:00 to 23:00.
Belver are a three-piece folk band based here in Sussex. The line-up is Jack Hogsden on melodeons and guitars, Dom Doran on whistles, and Harry Abel on fiddle. They work with English folk tunes, and they describe their approach as breathing new life into them with driving rhythm, rich harmonies and a playful on-stage chemistry. It's the kind of folk that keeps moving rather than sitting still.
Opening the night are The Herringbones, who bring sea shanties to the table. Those are the old working songs of the sea, the kind that were meant to be sung in unison, and they'll be leading with them before Belver take over for the main set.
