Concert by Baby Dave, the solo project of Isaac Holman from the band Soft Play, at the Volks Club.
Baby Dave plays Volks Club on Tuesday 20 October, a solo show from Isaac Holman. If the name doesn't ring a bell, you'll likely know him as the frontman of Soft Play, the Brighton-based band that's been making a name for itself over the last few years. This is his project under his own name, and it's a different beast from the full-band sound he's known for.
For those who've followed Soft Play, the shift here is the focus on Holman as a solo performer. While the band is a collective effort, Baby Dave puts him centre stage, and the set is built around his own songs. It's a more stripped-back affair, with the songs taking the lead rather than the noise of a full band around him. If you've only ever heard him as part of the group, this is a good chance to hear where his songwriting comes from.

The gig is at Volks Club, 3 Madeira Drive, BN2 1PS, right down by the seafront. It's a Tuesday night, which keeps it a bit more low-key than a weekend run, and the start time is 7:30 pm. Tickets start from £18.00, so you can get in without spending too much on a weeknight.
