Dave Pop! opens his house for the Artists Open Houses festival, featuring colourful pop art and kitsch items for sale.
May in Brighton always brings the Artists Open Houses festival, and it is one of those times when the city feels a bit more connected. It is a straightforward concept: artists and makers open up their own homes and studios to the public, turning living rooms and hallways into temporary galleries. It is a different way to see the city, moving away from the usual high street shops and into the private spaces where people actually create their work.

One of the spots participating this year is at 27 New Steine, which is part of the Kemptown Trail. The artist Dave Pop! is opening his space, which he calls 'House of Pop!'. If you have been to his exhibitions before, you might know what to expect, but for those who haven't, it is essentially a space filled with colour, kitsch, and pop art that is available to buy. It has a bit of a fairground atmosphere to it, which makes it a fairly relaxed place to wander through if you are already exploring the Kemptown area.
The house will be open every Saturday and Sunday throughout May, from 11:00 to 18:00. Since it is part of the wider festival, it is easy enough to combine a visit here with a walk around other nearby houses on the trail. It is a good way to spend a weekend afternoon if you are interested in seeing how local artists display their work outside of a traditional gallery setting.
