A bold, biting and darkly comic play about the Lafayette siblings returning to their father's crumbling plantation home.
Appropriate opens at New Venture Theatre on Friday 17 July, with the first performance starting at 19:30. It's a bold, biting and darkly comic play that follows the Lafayette siblings as they return to their father's crumbling plantation home in Arkansas to sort out his estate. The family gathers to divide the inheritance, but the mood shifts when they discover some unsettling artefacts among his belongings. From there, the play works its way through heritage, race and the things we choose to remember or forget about the past.
It's a production that sits firmly in the realm of adult drama, so it's one for the theatre-goers rather than a family outing. If you're into sharp, uncomfortable comedy that doesn't shy away from its subject matter, this is exactly that kind of night.
The run continues well beyond the opening, with performances on the 18th, 19th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th of July. There's a matinee on Sunday 19 July at 14:30, which is a good shout if an evening doesn't work for you. That gives you plenty of dates to choose from across the run, so you can pick the one that fits your schedule best.
