Ukrainian National Opera presents Puccini's Tosca, performed in Italian with English surtitles and a live orchestra.
Ukrainian National Opera bring Puccini's Tosca to the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre on Monday 15 March 2027, with the curtain going up at 7:30pm. It's a production by the Dnipro Opera, Ukraine, so the whole company is coming over from there.
If you're not familiar with the story, Tosca is one of opera's great thrillers. It's a gripping tale of love, jealousy, corruption and sacrifice, set in Rome during a time of political unrest. At the centre is Floria Tosca, a celebrated singer caught between her love for the artist Mario Cavaradossi and the ruthless power of Baron Scarpia. It's a high-stakes setup that pulls the three of them into a collision course, and it's one of Puccini's most dramatic works.
On the night, the production is sung in Italian with English surtitles, so you'll be able to follow every line of the story as it unfolds. It's performed with a live orchestra, outstanding soloists, lavish costumes and impressive sets, and it includes the famous aria 'Vissi d'arte' alongside some of Puccini's most dramatic music. Between the live orchestra and the full production values, it's a proper night at the opera rather than a stripped-back version.
