The official stage show celebrating the greatest folk band of all time, produced by John Sheahan, with a cast singing along to the hits that made them.
The Dubliners Encore comes to the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre on Tuesday 16 March 2027, a stage show celebrating the folk band. It's produced by John Sheahan, the fiddle player and Irish icon who was a member of the band, and it packs 50 years of their songs, stories and craic into one night. The cast sings along to the hits that made them, billed as an Irish sing-along.
Among the songs you'll hear are The Wild Rover, Seven Drunken Nights, The Black Velvet Band, Whiskey in the Jar and The Irish Rover. The show describes itself as a celebration of what it calls the greatest folk band of all time.
For a bit of background, The Dubliners started in O'Donoghue's pub in Dublin in 1962 as 'the Ronnie Drew Folk Group', fronted by Ronnie Drew, Luke Kelly, Barney McKenna and Ciarán Bourke. Their breakthrough came in 1967 when Seven Drunken Nights was picked up by a pirate radio station and played alongside the Beatles, the Who and Jimi Hendrix, propelling them to gold discs and global fame. The line-up evolved over the decades: Jim McCann replaced Ronnie Drew in 1974, Seán Cannon stepped in for the ill Luke Kelly, and Eamonn Campbell joined in 1987, helping them back to the charts with The Irish Rover. They've been cited as influences for countless Irish and Scottish acts, including the Chieftains, the Pogues and U2.
