Now That's What I Call Symphonic Music!

Now That's What I Call Symphonic Music! comes to the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre on Friday 7 August. It's a symphonic concert that takes popular musical hits and runs them through a full orchestra, so you'll recognise the tunes even if you've never set foot in a concert hall.

Behind the music is the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, which is a cultural beacon for the South West of England. They don't just play here in Bournemouth; they give concerts across the region in Poole, Exeter, Portsmouth and Bristol. They're also a registered charity, and that side of things comes through in the BSO Participate team, which works with the youngest and oldest members of communities across the South West to bring music into everyday life.

There's more to it than just the concerts, too. The orchestra runs the BSO Music-Making Competition, sponsored by Lark Music and open to non-professional musicians aged 18 and over from across the UK, with £3,000 to be won. It's one of those things that runs alongside the main stage, keeping the music going for people who aren't professional players.
