A popular series of organ recitals performed on the historic 1929 Compton Organ at the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre, featuring musical hits and classic tunes.
The Compton Organ is back at the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre on Tuesday 3 November, one of several dates it's playing throughout the year. It's a lunchtime concert, with doors opening at 12:30 and the music starting at 13:00, lasting an hour.
The organ itself has been part of the Pavilion since it opened in 1929, and for nearly a century it's been at the heart of the theatre. Bournemouth residents once regarded it as the most exciting concept in indoor entertainment, and that reputation still carries some weight. These particular shows first took place in 1985 and have stayed popular ever since, with the money raised going towards the organ's ongoing financial support and maintenance.
The repertoire runs from the 1950s to the present day, mixing musical hits, classic tunes and the occasional light classical march. It's a broad stretch of music, so you'll hear things from different eras in the same set. The Pavilion is managed by the registered charity BH Live in partnership with BCP Council.
