A Country Night in Nashville

Dominic Halpin & The Hurricanes are bringing A Country Night in Nashville to the Bournemouth Pavilion Theatre on Tuesday 11 August, starting at 7:30pm. The whole evening is built around the honky-tonk scene of downtown Nashville, and the set takes you through the history of country music rather than sticking to one era. It's a journey across the genre's biggest stars, both past and present, with the vocals and musicianship of Halpin and his band driving the whole thing.

What that looks like in practice is a mix of the old and the new. You'll hear the classics that built the sound, like Johnny Cash's 'Ring Of Fire' and Patsy Cline's 'Crazy', alongside more contemporary country favourites like 'Follow Your Arrow', 'It's Five O'Clock Somewhere', 'Need You Now', Dolly Parton's '9-5' and Kenny Rogers' 'The Gambler'. It's a broad sweep, so if you've only ever known the older records, there's plenty of the newer stuff to get stuck into, and vice versa.

The production draws on the recent resurgence of the genre, which has been kept in the public eye by artists like The Shires, Taylor Swift and Lady Antebellum. It also nods to the US TV show Nashville, which helped introduce the sound to a younger audience. So the setlist doesn't just lean on the heritage acts; it brings in the songs that have kept country moving forward over the last few years.
