Regular club night at The Night Owl, a Northern Soul and Motown bar, with DJs playing soul and groovy music from the 1950s to the 1990s.
Throwback Thursdays returns to The Night Owl on Thursday 12 November, the next in a regular run that falls on the second Thursday of every month. It's a night that lives up to its name, with the DJs spinning tunes from the 1950s right through to the 1990s, and the floor filling with records from across those decades. You'll hear Gaga, Bowie, the Bee Gees and TLC in the same set, so it's less about one particular era and more about the pop and soul that's stuck around.
The Night Owl bills itself as the Midlands' only Northern Soul and Motown bar, and that soul influence runs through the whole night. The DJs keep the groovy stuff going from the fifties on, with plenty of soul mixed in, and the set spans every decade from there. It's the kind of night where you can hear a Motown classic and a 90s pop hit back-to-back without it feeling out of place.
It's also part of a full week of club nights at the venue. There's 'Come As You Are', an inclusive 18+ evening for everyone, including neurodiverse and autistic clubbers; a weekly night of live jazz put on by Digbeth Jazz; and 'Boogie Tuesday', a student and industry night spinning disco, funk, pop and boogie. Throwback Thursdays sits alongside them as the mid-month nod to the records you already know.
