A debut evening combining live blues from a duo with whisky tasting at an open bar.
The Rhythm & Booze Project make their Birmingham debut at Downstairs at Chas Mann's on Friday 16 October, bringing their particular blend of live blues and whisky tasting to Kings Norton. It's run by Paul and Felipe, who work as both musicians and whisky professionals, so the two halves of the night aren't just running alongside each other — they're the whole point.
They describe their evenings as 'half gig, half tasting, and half house party', and the format is straightforward: raucous live blues paired with an open bar stocked with a wide selection of premium Scottish single malts and whiskies from around the world. While the music is playing, Paul and Felipe teach the room how to sound smart when drinking whisky, so you'll leave knowing a bit more about what's in your glass than when you walked in.
The Birmingham date is a first for them at Downstairs at Chas Mann's, which they call The Mann Cave. It's the live-music home of Chas Mann Motorcycles, a self-styled 'Band, Bar & Bistro' where music is billed as 'live & close up'. The venue keeps a regular programme going: the Rea River Roots open mic every Wednesday, Gaz's Rock & Blues Jam on the first Thursday of the month, solos, duos and DJs on Friday nights, full bands on Saturdays and a Sunday Soiree afternoon. This fits right into that Friday slot.
