Northern Soul & Motown Night

Hollywood Golf Club in Redditch is hosting a Northern Soul & Motown Night on Friday 23 October, starting at 19:30. It's exactly what the title says: a night dedicated to Northern Soul and Motown, two styles that have spent decades keeping dancefloors moving across the Midlands.

If you're not entirely sure where the two sit, they're closely related. Motown is the polished, chart-topping sound of Detroit—The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye—the kind of records that were designed for the radio. Northern Soul is a bit different. It grew out of the mod scene in the 60s and 70s, when DJs in the North of England started digging for obscure American soul records that had flopped in the States but had the fast, driving beat that worked on a dancefloor. Both are built on the same foundation: strong melodies, heavy basslines, and a beat that doesn't let up.

Putting them together in one night means you get the big, familiar hits alongside the rarer, faster tracks that the Northern Soul scene is known for. It's the sort of evening that works whether you're there to dance or just to listen and have a drink.

It's on Friday 23 October at Hollywood Golf Club, with the music kicking off at 19:30. Tickets start from £7.00.
