Free members' reception at Symphony Hall to meet the CBSO brass players and learn what goes on before a performance.
The CBSO are hosting a members' reception at Symphony Hall on Thursday 4 March, starting at 6:45pm. The evening is built around the brass section, so you'll get to meet the players who handle the trumpets, horns and trombones. It's one of those behind-the-scenes things the orchestra puts on for its members, and it runs before the concert and through the interval, rather than as a standalone show.
If you're not familiar with how these work, the CBSO runs a series of members' events throughout the year. They're relaxed, informal gatherings where members are greeted by orchestra staff, players, conductors and soloists. The whole point is to get a look at what goes on before a performance and to meet other people who share the same taste in music. The programme changes from one to the next, with afternoon teas, drinks receptions, Q&As, open rehearsals and an annual gala dinner for top-level members. Circles' members get invited to Circles' Drinks at every evening concert without needing a separate reservation.

This particular one puts the brass section in the spotlight, so it's a good chance to chat with the people who provide the orchestral power. The reception runs before the concert and continues during the interval, so you can catch them both before the first note and while the stage is being reset. It's free for CBSO members, and £10 per person for non-member guests. It starts at 6:45pm at Symphony Hall in Birmingham.
