Breakfast food truck, hot drinks and essential supplies for people on the streets, with volunteers from the homelessness charity Let's Feed Brum.
Let's Feed Brum are bringing their Breakfast Club to Birmingham Cathedral on Thursday 25 March, from 10:00 to 12:00. They'll be parked up outside the cathedral on Colmore Row, B3 2QB, serving hot drinks and breakfast items and handing out essential supplies and clothing. While the food is going out, volunteers use the morning to start conversations with the city's homeless and signpost them to the services already in place.
It's a straightforward morning, but there's a fair bit of history behind it. Let's Feed Brum is one of the city's leading homeless charities, and it grew out of the work of Inspiration Support, a team of volunteers who spent six years handing out food, drink, essential supplies and friendship to people living on the streets. They're driven by a mission to end homelessness in Birmingham, and the Breakfast Club is one of the ways they do that on the ground.
Part of what they do is also about the waste we leave behind. They work from the fact that 10 million tonnes of food are thrown away every year in the UK, and they tackle it by bringing together Birmingham's cafés, bars and restaurants to feed people on the streets. The Breakfast Club is the public face of that work, with a food truck serving breakfast and hot drinks in the city centre.
