Over-18s stand-up show by James Barr about shame, survival and domestic abuse, presented by Lee Martin for Gag Reflex.
James Barr brings his show Sorry I Hurt Your Son (Said My Ex To My Mum) to the Old Joint Stock Pub & Theatre on Wednesday 4 November, running from 19:30 to 21:00. It's presented by Lee Martin for Gag Reflex, and it's for over-18s.
Barr is a multi-award-winning British comedian and presenter, and you've probably come across him before he ever stepped on a stage. He hosts A Gay and A NonGay Podcast and The Hits Radio Breakfast Show, and has appeared on BBC One, Comedy Central and Channel 5. This show, though, is a different beast from the radio and TV work. He describes it as a darkly hilarious reckoning with shame, survival and domestic abuse, drawing on his own experience.
It's an hour of stand-up that doesn't quite fit into a neat box. ArtsHub called it 'genre-defying', and the critics were on board: Broadway Baby called it 'brave, funny and gloriously empowering', and Fringe Review described it as 'courageous. original. a tour de force'. It was one of the best-reviewed shows at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe, where it picked up nominations for Best Show at the ISH Edinburgh Comedy Awards, NextUp's Biggest Award in Comedy and the Queer Performers Award.
