Short online Anglican Night Prayer service, a digital Compline with psalms, a Bible reading and prayers, held by Birmingham Cathedral.
Birmingham Cathedral is putting on Compline on Friday 23 October, from 20:00 to 20:15. It's a short one, and there's a catch you should know before you set off: it's online only. You won't be heading into the building for this one, so you can tune in from wherever you happen to be that evening.
If you're not familiar with it, Compline is the traditional Anglican office of Night Prayer. The cathedral produces it as a digital service released exclusively online rather than as a gathering in the building. The office follows a set form of psalms, a Bible reading and prayers, and at fifteen minutes it's a brief, focused way to wind down the day.
It helps to know where it's coming from. Birmingham Cathedral is a church of the Anglican Communion and the seat of the Bishop of Birmingham. It's a place with a strong choral tradition, with a professional choir of boys, girls and adults that sings five services a week during choir term times. Beyond the music, the cathedral runs regular activities exploring public theology and offers baptisms and weddings.
