A sustainable craft market featuring independent traders selling crafts, gifts and ornaments, alongside pop-up food and drink vendors, in the grounds of Birmingham Cathedral.
Christmas in Cathedral Square returns to Cathedral Square from Thursday 5 November to Thursday 24 December 2026, running for 50 days across the city centre. It's a craft market set in the grounds of Birmingham Cathedral, a Grade I listed building that holds a good few treasures of its own.
It started back in November 2021 as a sustainable platform for the region's independent traders and entrepreneurs, and it's grown in popularity since. There are around 60 independent businesses selling crafts, gifts and ornaments, and you buy original work directly from the makers. Pop-up food and drink vendors are there too, so it works as a proper day or evening out rather than just a quick stop. The organisers run it with a 'Think Green' approach, focusing on reducing, reusing and recycling waste and avoiding single-use plastic.
It's often described as a cosy, traditional 'hidden gem' on the doorstep of the city centre, and it sits a little more low-key than the Frankfurt Christmas Market over in Victoria Square, which is billed as the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany and Austria. If you're after something a bit quieter, this is the one. There's 24/7 security throughout the load-in, load-out and trading periods.
