Choose Your Own Wine Tasting Adventure

Arch 13 at Connolly's is hosting a wine tasting on Thursday 22 October, from 19:00 to 20:30. It's called Choose Your Own Wine Tasting Adventure, and the name isn't just for show. You'll work your way through three wines, but you get to decide where the night takes you: everyone starts with the same bottle, and then you choose between two options for each of the following two. By the time you've finished, your tasting will be slightly different from the person sitting next to you.

The whole thing is led by a member of the Arch 13 team, who'll walk you through the bottles as you go. It lasts about an hour and a half, so there's plenty of time to actually taste and talk about what's in the glass rather than rushing through. If you're not ready to call it a night when the tasting wraps up, you can hang around and work your way through the bar's wine menu, which pairs unique bottles with cheese and meat.

There's a bit of history behind the venue too. Arch 13 at Connolly's is a family-owned and run business with a heritage stretching back into the 19th century; they've been shipping wine into Birmingham since 1906. It's a good reminder that the city's wine scene often flies under the radar, even though it's strong and growing, with independent wine bars in the Jewellery Quarter and the city centre hosting regular tastings and masterclasses run by local wine schools.
