Blues rock band Burning Rope, formed from members of Catfish, plays a strictly over-18s show at Joe Joe Jims.
Burning Rope are playing Joe Joe Jims on Friday 13 November, their return to the venue after a previous show that the club describes as having torn the house down. It's a blues rock night, and the band is the sole feature on the bill.
There's a fair bit of history behind the name. Burning Rope formed after the death of Catfish frontman Matt Long in October 2024. Two of the remaining members of Catfish — a multiple UK Blues award-winning band — teamed up with drummer Mitch Weaving, who'd been a regular dep with the group, and guitarist Alex Voysey. Voysey brings his own pedigree to the line-up: his album Blues in Isolation earned a UK Blues Awards 2025 Best Album nomination.
That mix of backgrounds shapes what they play. Alongside their own material, they perform the songs written for Catfish by keyboard player Paul Long, as well as tracks he wrote for his previous band, The Riotous Brothers. So the set pulls from a few different eras of Long's writing, with the newer Burning Rope songs sitting alongside the older Catfish and Riotous Brothers material.
