Hardcore show with New Orleans deathgrind band BRAT and UK hardcore act Cage Fight at The Flapper.
Cage Fight and BRAT are playing The Flapper on Sunday 1 November, with the night starting at 6:00pm.
BRAT are a New Orleans deathgrind and hardcore band who formed in 2021. They describe their own aesthetic as 'barbiegrind / bimboviolence', a style built on intentional dichotomy, and their album Social Grace is described as a cataclysmically heavy party. If you're not familiar with deathgrind, it's a fast, abrasive blend of death metal and grindcore, and the 'barbiegrind' label suggests they lean into a bright, pink-hued contrast against the noise.
Cage Fight started as a bedroom project by TesseracT guitarist James Monteith and bassist/MC Jon Reid, intended as a nostalgic tribute to the music of their youth. The names they cite are a who's who of old-school thrash and hardcore: Slayer, Terror, Hatebreed, Biohazard and Stampin' Ground. In February 2021, they added drummer Nick Plews and singer Rachel Aspe to the line-up, and the result is described as one of the most furious and angry hardcore records to emerge from the UK in years. Between the two, you've got a New Orleans deathgrind outfit and a UK hardcore band that wears its 90s influences on its sleeve.
