Stand-up night with Joe Lycett and three comedy friends, with choir The Full Fatt Sound, marking the 125th birthday of The Alexandra Theatre.
Joe Lycett is playing The Alexandra on Monday 7 December, with three comedy friends and the choir The Full Fatt Sound. It's a one-night-only show, part of 'The Alex 125', a season marking the theatre's 125th birthday, presented in association with Chamber Touring Ltd.
If you've followed Lycett's work, you'll know him as the man behind Joe Lycett's Got Your Back on Channel 4, where he takes on companies on behalf of consumers, and as the presenter of BBC Two's The Great British Sewing Bee. He started out at Manchester University, where he won the Chortle Student Comedy Award in 2009, and has since built a reputation for a relaxed, unaffected stage presence. Critics have described him as imaginative and cheekily subversive, and back in 2018 he was ranked seventh in Ents24's Hardest Working Comedians.
The format of the night is deliberately open-ended: the choir joins each act on stage, whether for a musical number, a backing track or something else entirely. Comedy, music and awkwardness are the reliable ingredients. Lycett shares the bill with three comedy friends, and The Full Fatt Sound will be weaving through the whole evening rather than just filling a slot. It's a one-off, so it's a single night rather than a run.
