Tutored whisky tasting session led by a whisky specialist, with six whiskies paired with gourmet bites, at Grain & Glass.
A Tour of Scotland Whisky Tasting is running at Grain & Glass in Birmingham, with sessions on Thursday 31 October. It's a tutored tasting led by a whisky specialist, and it's designed to take you through the whole process: from the initial mashing to the art of ageing in fine oak barrels, and then on to how to nose and taste it properly. Each person samples six different whiskies and works through a tasting sheet, with the drams paired with gourmet bites chosen to complement their profiles. Once the session wraps, you can stay on in the bar and order more from the venue's drinks menu.
It's a session that earns its 'tutored' label. You're not just sipping and nodding; you're learning the how and why of the drink, from the production side through to the tasting. Reviewers have called it 'extremely worthwhile and informative' and 'highly educational', which is a good sign if you're going in as a complete beginner or just want to get a bit more certain about what you're actually tasting.
