48th Birmingham Rapidplay

The 48th Birmingham Rapidplay is on Sunday 31 January 2027 at the Quinborne Community Centre in Quinton. It's the latest edition of the Birmingham Rapidplay, a chess tournament that's been running for nearly five decades, and this one marks its 48th outing.

If you're not familiar with the format, rapidplay is just that: chess played at a faster pace than the traditional long games. You've got a set amount of time for all your moves, so the games move quickly and you're through your rounds in a single day rather than stretching them over a weekend. It's a good way to get a few games in without committing your whole Sunday to one board.

The tournament is held at the Quinborne Community Centre on Ridgacre Road in Quinton, Birmingham B32 2TW. It's a community hub in the west of the city, so if you're coming from the city centre, you'll be heading out towards the Quinton area. The date is Sunday 31 January 2027, and it's a one-day event, so you can get your chess fix and still be home for dinner.

Whether you're a regular on the local circuit or just fancy a few games on a Sunday, it's a straightforward way to spend a winter afternoon. The 48th Birmingham Rapidplay runs on Sunday 31 January 2027 at the Quinborne Community Centre, Ridgacre Road, Quinton, Birmingham B32 2TW.
