Drop-off iPad workshop run by KIPPIE in which children aged 8-12 design an original game character with Procreate, part of the Cinemagic Festival.
Character Design 101 is running at the Ulster Museum on Saturday 24 October, from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. It's a 90-minute workshop for kids aged 8 to 12, and it's part of the Cinemagic Festival, presented by KIPPIE.
KIPPIE runs the session, and their work is all about getting young people to explore the world of games. They frame it as an inclusive way to build creativity alongside STEM and digital skills, showing how a passion for gaming can lead to future careers. During the workshop, each child works on an iPad with Procreate to design an original character from scratch. They'll go through the basics of strong silhouettes, shape language, and colour choices — the kind of things that make a character recognisable at a glance — before turning those ideas into an epic hero or an unforgettable villain.
It's a drop-off workshop, so you don't need to stay and supervise; you just fill out a contact details registration form on the day and leave them to it. That makes it a bit easier if you've got other things to get on with while they're busy drawing. The whole thing takes place in the Learning Zone at the Ulster Museum, in the Botanic Gardens (BT9 5AB).
