Willie Pipkin brings his blues, swing and roots music sound to The Continental Club with local Austin musicians.
Willie Pipkin & Friends are back at The Continental Club this Sunday, August 30. It's part of a regular thing Pipkin has going there—every Sunday night at 9:30 PM—and since this is the last Sunday of the month, it's Country night.
If you haven't caught him before, Pipkin is an Austin musician whose sound is rooted in the blues, but it doesn't stop there. He pulls in bluegrass, swing, jazz, rock 'n' roll, and just about every kind of roots music you can think of. He keeps several residencies around town, both as a sideman and under his own name, and he's known for bringing the cream of the crop of local musicians to play along with him. That's where the "& Friends" part comes in: the lineup changes, and you usually get some of the best players in the city on stage at once.

The Continental Club, a South Congress institution, books the night as 21+ only. It's a $10 cover at the door after 9 PM, and there are no advance tickets, so you just show up and pay when you get there. With the music starting at 9:30 PM, it's a late-night Sunday spot that leans into the roots side of things.
