Willie Pipkin performs a roots music set at The Continental Club, with the night designated as Country night.
Willie Pipkin & Friends play The Continental Club on Sunday, August 23. It's part of a regular thing: Pipkin plays the club every last Sunday of the month, so if you miss this one, there's another one coming around in September.
If you haven't caught him before, Pipkin is an Austin musician whose sound starts with the blues but pulls from bluegrass, swing, jazz, rock 'n' roll and all kinds of roots music. He keeps several residencies around town, playing both as a sideman and under his own name, and he's known for bringing the cream of the crop of local musicians to play along with him. That's where the "& Friends" part comes in—the lineup changes, and you usually get a different mix of local players each time.

The Continental Club books the night as Country night, so the whole evening sits under that umbrella. It's a 21+ show, and there are no advance tickets, so you'll be paying at the door. Doors open at 9 PM and the music starts at 9:30 PM. The cover is $10 cash, so come prepared with a ten-dollar bill in your pocket. If you're in the neighborhood on a Sunday night and want some roots music, this is a straightforward way to spend the evening.
