A regular third-Saturday meetup where sewists bring their latest projects to show and discuss, with all levels welcome.
We Sew Austin meets at the George Washington Carver Genealogy Center on Saturday, September 19, from 10 AM to 12 PM. It's a regular third-Saturday gathering where sewists bring in their latest projects to show and talk about. All levels are welcome, and you're encouraged to bring along any extra fabric or patterns you're looking to share.
The meetup takes place inside the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural and Genealogy Center, a small restored historical building in East Austin that preserves and exhibits African American material culture, history, and aesthetic expression. The museum itself is free and open to the public, with rotating art galleries, four permanent exhibits, arts and culture classes, and a Genealogy Center that offers free databases, workshops, and seminars. The sewing group fills one of the rooms during the morning, so if you have a bit of extra time, you can wander through the exhibits before or after.

Beyond the museum, the historic Rosewood neighborhood puts food trucks and shopping within easy reach of I-35 and downtown, so it's a good spot to stretch your legs and grab a bite once the meetup wraps up. The event is free, and it runs from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, September 19, at 1163 Angelina Street.
