The Midnight, a synthwave duo, perform live at ACL Live at The Moody Theater, promoting their album Syndicate.
The Midnight play ACL Live at The Moody Theater on Friday, September 11, as part of their North American tour. They're bringing their fifth studio album, Syndicate, to the stage, and the set will be built around it. Four singles are already out: "Shadowverse," "Digital Dreams," "Chariot," and "Love is an Ocean."
If you're not familiar, The Midnight are a synthwave duo who formed in Los Angeles in the spring of 2012. That happened when Atlanta-born singer and lyricist Tyler Lyle crossed paths with Danish songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tim McEwan on the Georgia live-music scene around Eddie's Attic. Their sound grew out of the retro-1980s wave sparked by the film Drive, and they've since become one of the defining acts of modern synth music. Among their fan favorites are "Sunset," "Days of Thunder," "Los Angeles," and the breakthrough "Endless Summer."
They've scored three number-one singles on Billboard's electronic music chart and co-headlined a 2024 run with Chromeo. Lyle describes Syndicate as their "making peace with the apocalypse" record and their most ambitious work yet. It's the album they're touring right now, so the Austin date is one of the nights they'll be playing it live. One change to the usual setup: McEwan has recently withdrawn from touring to focus on songwriting and studio work, so the stage will look a bit different than in years past.
