The Killers + The Killing Double Feature

The State Theatre is pairing two crime classics on Saturday, August 29, as part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series. It's a double feature of The Killers and The Killing, and both happen to be celebrating big anniversaries this year.

First up is The Killers (1946), which hits its 80th anniversary. It's directed by Robert Siodmak and stars Burt Lancaster and Ava Gardner. After that, the screen switches to The Killing (1956), celebrating its 70th anniversary, directed by Stanley Kubrick and starring Sterling Hayden. The two films are separated by a decade, but they sit in the same noir neighborhood: crime, heist, and the kind of tension that doesn't let up until the credits roll.

The State Theatre is part of the Paramount Theatre complex on Congress Avenue, which has stood in downtown Austin for over a century. It's a central spot for the city's arts scene, hosting red-carpet premieres and screenings during SXSW and the Austin Film Festival.
