Live performance by the Austin alternative rock band The Impossibles at Hotel Vegas & The Volstead Lounge.
The Impossibles play Hotel Vegas & The Volstead Lounge on Wednesday, August 19, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's a local Austin band, and they're the only act on the bill.
They started in April 1994, when Rory Phillips on vocals and guitar, Craig Tweedy on bass, and Pat Elliott on drums brought in singer Gabe Hascall, who also played second guitar. The band grew out of the ashes of another Austin group, The Fatgirls. Their early sound blended the alternative rock pop of Weezer and The Pixies with the punk pop and ska of Bay Area bands like Green Day and Operation Ivy. Their self-titled album first came out on the local label Red 5 Records and was later picked up by Fueled By Ramen, followed by the EP Back 4 The Attack.
After the band broke up, a 1999 reunion produced the album Return, which pulled in influences like Elliott Smith, Spiritualized, and Fugazi. They toured in 2000 and released the EP 4 Song Brick Bomb in 2001, before calling it quits again with a final show on June 1, 2002. They reunited on June 9, 2012.
