Paramount Summer Classic Film Series presents The Goonies, the beloved family adventure about teenagers finding a treasure map.
The State Theatre is screening The Goonies on Sunday, August 30, as part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series. It's the 1985 family adventure, 111 minutes long, shown in DCP. Richard Donner directed it, and the cast includes Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy-Quan.
The story is a familiar one: a group of teenagers finds a map leading to a hidden treasure and has to outrun booby traps, natural obstructions, and a gang of thieves in their race for the loot. It's a movie that works as well for kids as it does for anyone who grew up with it, and seeing it on a big screen is a different experience than watching it at home.
There's a bit of local history to the venue, too. The State Theatre and the Paramount Theatre have both stood on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin for over a century. The Paramount serves as an anchor of the city's arts scene, hosting red-carpet film premieres and screenings during SXSW and AFF, and this screening is part of the summer series they run. If you're a regular, the Film Fan Membership gives you discounted admission and free popcorn.
