The Animeros and Lew Apollo are playing The Continental Club on Friday, August 28, with The Animeros taking the stage at 10 PM and Lew Apollo following at midnight. It's a double bill that puts two very different sounds on the same stage, and both have a fair amount of ground to cover.
The Animeros are an Austin band that formed in 2024. They describe their sound as drifting between the lush jungles of Colombia, the palm-lined streets of 1960s coastal Mexico, and the dusty cantinas of West Texas—a mix of Latin rhythms and border-town grit. They've already caught the attention of Dan Auerbach, who is releasing their first two tracks on Easy Eye Sound.
Lew Apollo comes from a different place entirely, born and raised in rural Northern Minnesota. He writes soul music rooted in internal struggles, drawing on home-state icons Bob Dylan and Prince, and taking cues from Hozier, Leon Bridges, and Labrinth. He's been playing out since his 2023 debut EP, and the shows have sold out since then.
