Ta Se Dhin Tak, a two-day tabla festival presented by the School of Indian Percussion & Music, comes to the Asian American Resource Center on October 3 and 4. The festival is built around Guru-Shishya Parampara, the sacred bond between teacher and disciple that sits at the heart of Indian classical music. The idea is simple and rarely seen on stage: each performance pairs one of the tradition's most respected percussion maestros with their own accomplished disciple, turning the concert into a living demonstration of how the art is passed down. Over the two days, you follow the continuity, depth, and beauty of that tradition through the performances and the musical dialogue between the pairs.
The lineup brings together some of the biggest names in the world of tabla. Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri performs with Shri Nilan Chaudhuri, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee with Shri Anubrata Chatterjee, Pt. Nayan Ghosh with Shri Ishaan Ghosh, and Pt. Gourisankar with Shri Rishi Prashad. Each pairing is a teacher and their student, so you're hearing the music played by the person who taught it and the person who learned it from them, side by side.

It's a full weekend of percussion. Saturday, October 3, starts at 4 PM, and Sunday, October 4, begins at 3 PM. Tickets are $70 for general admission and $125 for patrons, and the whole thing takes place at the Asian American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Rd, Austin, TX 78754.
