Summer Book Sale

The Austin Public Library Windsor Park Branch is hosting a Summer Book Sale on Wednesday, July 29, from 3 PM to 5 PM. It's a straightforward afternoon for anyone looking to stock up on reading without spending much: books for all ages, from babies to adults, at very low prices. There's a Spanish-language version of the sale as well, so you can find titles in both languages in one go.

If you've never been to this branch, it's at 5833 Westminster Drive. The building opened on July 15, 2000, but library services in the area go back much further. In the late 1950s, bookmobiles delivered to the Windsor Village Shopping Center on Berkman Drive, and in 1963, the Windsor Village Station took over. A proposal for a permanent building failed in the 1966 bond issue, and the funds approved in 1982 ended up going toward the University Hills Branch instead. It took until a 1992 bond issue to finally make this branch a reality.

When you arrive, you'll see Paul Bond's bronze sculpture Reading Between the Lions at the front door, part of the Austin Art in Public Places program. The sale itself is open to everyone, and while the program is primarily in English, all are welcome. Entry is free, and the books are priced low enough to pick up a few things for yourself and the rest of the house in one trip.
