Steve Adler: Hot Seat – Hot City

Steve Adler is coming to First Light Books on Tuesday, September 8, to present his first memoir, Hot Seat – Hot City: The Austin Mayor's Story. It's a book signing paired with a conversation, so you'll get to hear him talk through the material before you get your copy signed.

Adler became mayor of Austin in 2015 and spent eight years in office, a stretch that covered some of the city's most visible shifts. He describes it as a period of massive growth, with the city's pandemic response standing out as a particular turning point—one he says marked a generational change in Austin's spirit. Hot Seat – Hot City is his first memoir, and he uses it to look back at the highs and lows of those eight years from the inside.

For the conversation part of the evening, Adler will be joined by congressman and former Council Member Greg Casar. The two of them will talk about how the city changed during Adler's time in office, so the discussion should pull in more than just the mayor's own perspective on the era. If you've spent any time following Austin's growth over the last decade, it's the kind of conversation that puts some of those changes into a clearer context.
