Outdoor fitness session for adults 50 and older focusing on cardiovascular health, flexibility, balance and strength.
Stay Strong is an outdoor fitness program for adults 50 and older, presented by Aging Is Cool at Waterloo Greenway. The sessions run every Tuesday from 10 AM to 11 AM, starting September 15 and continuing through November 3, 2026, though there's no class on October 19. You'll find them at the Meredith Heritage Tree Deck in Waterloo Park, part of the broader Waterloo Greenway system at 1111 Red River St in downtown Austin.
The program focuses on cardiovascular health, flexibility, balance, and strength, all built around accessible, low-impact movements that work for a variety of fitness levels. It's designed for people who want to stay active, meet new neighbors, or just get some exercise outdoors in the heart of downtown. Because it's low-impact, you don't need to be in peak shape to join in.
The setting is as much a part of the experience as the workout. Waterloo Greenway is a 1.5-mile, 35-acre park system being built as a public-private partnership between the City of Austin and the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy, with a 2026 completion goal. It meanders from 15th Street along the eastern edge of downtown down to Lady Bird Lake, linked by Waller Creek, and is planned to bring together environment, arts, health, and adventure. Symphony Square is already open, and Waterloo Park and the Moody Amphitheater opened in August 2021.
