Screening of the Ghibli masterpiece Spirited Away at AFS Cinema, with dubbed versions before 6pm and Japanese audio with subtitles later.
Spirited Away is playing at AFS Cinema from Friday, July 24 through Thursday, July 30. It's Hayao Miyazaki's 2001 masterpiece, a 2-hour-4-minute Academy Award winner that follows a young girl who has to use her wits to escape a spirit world filled with imaginative creatures, some benign and some sinister. The Guardian once called it a film "so readily able to astonish" that it wears that ability lightly.
One thing to keep in mind before you pick a time: the audio changes depending on when you go. Screenings starting at 6 PM or later are subtitled in Japanese; all others are dubbed. If you prefer the original voices, aim for the evening. If you'd rather have it dubbed, go before 6 PM.
The schedule runs for a full week, so you've got plenty of options. Friday, July 24 has shows at 4:15 PM and 9:00 PM; Saturday, July 25 at 2:30 PM and 8:00 PM; Sunday, July 26 at 3:45 PM and 7:00 PM. From there it's one a day: Monday, July 27 at 5:00 PM; Tuesday, July 28 at 3:30 PM; Wednesday, July 29 at 4:15 PM; and Thursday, July 30 at 7:30 PM.
