Retrospective screening of the 1996 sports comedy Space Jam, 30th anniversary edition, as part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series.
Space Jam returns to the big screen on Sunday, July 26, at Paramount and Stateside Theatres in downtown Austin. It's a retrospective screening of the 1996 sports comedy, running 88 minutes in color and presented on DCP. The film teams Michael Jordan with the Looney Tunes to take on a group of alien challengers, and the soundtrack became a must-have CD for an entire generation. Jordan shares the screen with Bugs Bunny, Wayne Knight, Theresa Randle, and Danny DeVito; Joe Pytka directed.
The screening is part of the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series. The Paramount Theatre has stood on Congress Avenue for over 100 years—built in 1915, it's Austin's oldest surviving theatre and a City and State Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's also one of the few remaining 'hemp houses' in the country. Over the decades, it's hosted red-carpet film premieres and played a role in SXSW and the Austin Film Festival, and it's home to the Moontower Comedy Festival. The Paramount operates alongside the State Theatre next door under The Austin Theatre Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.
