A song circle featuring Matt Heckler, Zach Aaron, Hayden Karchmer and Molly Ruth at The 04 Center.
The 04 Center hosts another installment of the South Austin Song Circle on Wednesday, November 4, with Matt Heckler, Zach Aaron, Hayden Karchmer, and Molly Ruth sharing the bill. It's a four-songwriter lineup under one roof, and the night runs from 8 PM to 10:30 PM at 2701 S Lamar Blvd.
Matt Heckler is a solo multi-instrumentalist who works the darker side of Appalachian mountain music and early bluegrass, drawing on Eastern European mountain traditions and Irish a cappella ballads. He spent a long stretch touring almost nonstop supporting Devil Makes Three, Lost Dog Street Band, and Flogging Molly. After that, he recorded Blood, Water, Coal with Jeff Loops of Lost Dog Street Band on upright bass and backing vocals, and The Magnolia Sessions, an outdoor live set that was the first release in that series. The Magnolia Sessions reached No. 9 on the Bluegrass Billboard Charts, while Blood, Water, Coal debuted at No. 3, putting two of his albums on the charts at once. His latest album, This Town Is Killin Me, was followed by a national tour.
Zach Aaron comes from Cleveland, Texas. He's a singer-songwriter whose tenor voice and finger-picked guitar draw on the tradition of Townes Van Zandt, Adam Carroll, Doc Watson, Guy Clark, and Willie Nelson. Before music, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a fighter aircraft mechanic; these days he works as a horseshoe farrier and saddle bronc rider. He'll be sharing the stage with Hayden Karchmer and Molly Ruth to round out the evening.
