Live music with Silo Road and Armadillo Road, plus two-step lessons and dancing, at The White Horse.
Silo Road and Armadillo Road are playing The White Horse on Sunday, August 30, and the night starts with dancing. Dancin Austin two-step lessons run from 7 PM to 8 PM, so if you've never tried it, this is a good time to get your footing before the music takes over. After that, Silo Road keeps things going from 7:30 PM all the way to 1 AM, with Armadillo Road taking the stage from 8 PM to 10 PM. Between the lessons and the two bands, there's music and dancing on the floor for nearly eight hours.
Both bands are run by Nathan Hill and Denis O'Donnell, who opened The White Horse on Comal Street back in December 2011. The venue grew out of the residencies they ran during their days managing the Hole in the Wall, and it went on to help launch modern outlaw country acts like Mike & the Moonpies and Leo Rondeau. Sundays have long belonged to Eastside institution Conjunto Los Pinkys, so this is part of a long tradition of Sunday nights on the Eastside.

If you've never been, the room has a low-set stage and the floor often fills up with a multi-generational crowd of dancers. On a busy night, it can be hard to see the singer, but that's just how the place works—the dancing is the main event, and even from the cheap seats you're part of it. It's a $5 cover, and the music runs from 7:30 PM until 1 AM.
