A chaotic theatre production of A Midsummer Night's Dream where one cast member performs visibly drunk each night, with audience interaction to increase the chaos.
The VORTEX is running Shakespeare But One Of Us Is Drunk: A Midsummer Night's Dream from August 13 to 22, produced by GOBSMACKED. It's a reimagining of the classic play with a chaotic twist: every night, one cast member is chosen at random to take five shots backstage and perform while visibly drunk, while the rest of the troupe stays sober and tries to keep the show on the rails. The audience can raise the ante by getting the drunk actor even drunker or bribing the Emcee to stir up more chaos.
The production leans into the play's own absurdities—the tangle of love matches, the faeries who turn a man's head into that of an ass, and the play-within-a-play about the doomed lovers Pyramus and Thisbe. The cast includes Olivia Rose McCain, Lilly Percifield, Dane Parker, Campbell Duffy, Oskar Brian, Hayden Daniel Cox, and Paisley Blair, with live musical accompaniment by Ritika Bhattacharjee.
